Mind In Motion
Have you ever been in a quiet place where everything around you is still, silent, and clean? A moment where most people can take a breath and pull in the calm?
What happens when your mind does not follow that calm?
Mind in Motion is a photographic series exploring the contrast between external stillness and internal chaos. In a moment where there is complete calmness there is movement. There is always noise and thoughts moving as fast as the world surrounding them.
Some minds rarely turn off. A continuous loop of good, bad, and what-ifs. A mind that revisits the past, awaits the future, and finds something new to worry about before the last thought was completed.
Through these photographs, I investigate what it feels like to bring chaos to calm moments.
These landscapes remain still. The mountains will always be there towering over us. The trees stand tall. The water will relax. Through purposeful movements, and long exposures, I am able to photograph these places to twist the stillness into something that feels like a constant motion
About My Mind
I have always had a mind that moves 100 miles per hour. I am filled with anxiety about what is coming and regret for the past. On the outside, I try to stay as positive as I can, as happy and bright as possible, but on the inside I am always looking for what I can do better and how I can make use of my one life.
Mind in Motion not only represents the constant flow of movement in my head, but also the chaos surrounding it. One moment I am still, the next I am spiraling. While traveling and making images, I am always chasing the still, but I can never seem to catch it.
Yet, I like to think that I experience even my chaos through rose colored glasses.
I see the world in light. I see it as colorful, bright, and dreamy. I am drawn to beauty even when my mind is anything but peaceful. Through my photographs, I paint a picture of the world as I want to see it. As my mind does not always let me experience the calm, I can still create the beauty I see within it.
I believe there is a world where chaos and beauty collide, where motion and stillness welcome you into my mind.
